One confident step from where you are to where you want to be

Bir Adım İleri’s founder began teaching in 2006. Over the following twenty years he worked in two countries, in language schools, private institutions, universities and teacher-training programmes, as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic coordinator, curriculum designer and leader.

One day he walked into class and found a student in tears. In the previous lesson she hadn’t been able to say a single word in English. The problem wasn’t knowledge: anxiety had silenced her and taken her confidence. Our founder handed her a packet of tissues to dry her tears, and then forgot about it. That year they worked on that feeling first.

By the end of the year the same student was speaking English in class. One day she showed him those tissues: she had kept them, because they meant so much to her. She later went on to continue her education in the United States. That was the moment he understood how much it matters for a teacher to care about the whole student, not only the subject they teach.

It wasn’t the only example. Sometimes a family didn’t know how to support their child’s language journey, and together they found a way. Over the years the feedback from students and families kept pointing to the same thing: what made the difference wasn’t a method, it was caring about the student.

He always felt something was missing. In many classrooms, students’ emotions, energy, sleep and stress went unseen. Yet learning isn’t only memorising words and phrases; it is something a whole person goes through. He saw this in his own life too: meditation, yoga, breathing work and different sports helped him, and he realised they could help his students as well.

About four years ago, while in a leadership role in Türkiye, he made himself a promise: if he ever built his own place, he would bring all of these together, because they are connected. Bir Adım İleri is that promise kept.

Why “Bir Adım İleri” (One Step Ahead)

For years our founder was a perfectionist and put many things off, waiting for them to be perfect. A mentor’s advice was simple: take one step at a time. James Clear’s Atomic Habits, with its idea of getting 1% better every day, and Tony Robbins’ insistence that execution matters more than a perfect plan said the same. He saw many English learners fall into the same trap: the goal is so big that starting feels impossible. That is where the name comes from. However big your goal, today is just one step ahead.
